Swords and Souls Hacked Mills Eagle: A Comprehensive Interview with Sunstroke

As I sit down to write this article, I want to extend my gratitude to Brandon, Christian, and Sean for helping set up this calamity. It's been a wild ride, and I'm excited to share our comprehensive interview with Sunstroke.

Recently, the band dropped a split with Bent Blue on New Morality Zine/WAR Records, as well as their latest single 'Frank' B/W 'Ceiling', which is out digitally today on Sky Valley Records. While Sean Farlow, the frontman and founder of Sunstroke, is currently enjoying a sunny beach vacation in Mexico with his family, Brandon Wallace (drummer) and Christian Debuque (rhythm guitarist and illustrator) took time to answer my questions.

One interesting fact about Sunstroke is that they recorded two of their latest songs, 'Frank' and a cover of Memorial Day's 'Ceiling', as well as two more previously released singles, at Inner Ear Recording Studios with Don Zientara. With a semi-permanent line-up since forming around 2017, the band has released a wide range of music on various labels such as Axe to Grind, Coin Toss Records, New Morality Zine, and WAR Records.

Sunstroke's unique ability lies in their ability to draw inspiration from different bands, sub-genres, eras, and labels, blending them together to create something fresh and exciting. Their influences are evident in their music, with nods to Dag Nasty, Embrace, Fugazi, Hüsker Dü, Rain, The Replacements, Rites of Spring, and Revolution Summer-era Dischord Records.

The band's latest releases showcase their ability to pull together disparate elements and create something new. Their split with Bent Blue is a great example of this, featuring two tracks that blend post-punk and hardcore sensibilities.
